Davika Hoorne, better known as Mai, is a Thai-Belgian actress and model. She was born in Bangkok, Thailand on May 16, 1992, and rose to fame after her films Heart Attack and Suddenly Twenty.

Mai is one of the most well-known actresses as she co-starred with Mario Maurer in Pee Mak, Thailand’s highest-grossing film to date.

Today, Mai is known as the “Queen of Presenters” due to the number of commercials she’s taken. She is also highly sought out by makeup artists, brands, and fashion designers alike.

In her debut film, Mai portrays a girl named Tien who was born into a wealthy family. But her father swapped at birth with the gardener’s son because her grandfather only wanted a boy.

When the grandfather passes away, Tien’s father didn’t want his “son” to inherit the family money, so he tries searching for Tien. He had left her with a family heirloom to indicate that she belongs to them.

Tien gets into a sticky situation but is saved by Rome. He believed her to be a boy at first, but later learns she’s a girl when he takes care of her.

When Rome finds out her true identity, he coaches her on how to act like a girl, inevitably falling in love with her.

2. Tawan Tor Saeng (Sunshine) 2012

Mai plays the role of Rasa, a talented interior designer in Bangkok. When her boss receives a new project to renovate playboy Pakaphong’s house, Rasa is assigned to the job.

When she meets Pakaphong, Rasa realizes that he was the man who almost killed her before and instantly doesn’t like him.

But Pakaphong has personal family issues of his own, drawing Rasa in to try and save him from his own personal demise.

3. Roy Lae Sanae Luang (Charming Deceptions) 2013

Mai plays Nuch, a daughter of a wealthy family and is unknowingly hated by Krao.

Krao’s mother committed suicide after she was sexually assaulted by Nuch’s father. His mother’s death also caused his dad to have a heart attack and pass away as well.

Krao is so angry that he bides his time getting his revenge on Nuch and her 2 siblings.

4. Kularb Rai Kong Naai Tawan (My Sassy Rose) 2014

Mai plays Rose, the spoiled granddaughter of Narong, owner of Hotel Queen Rose. She demands a lot from other people and believes that everyone else is below her.

Rose meets Tawan for the first time at her welcome back party and doesn’t treat her very well. Tawan also doesn’t care for her attitude.

There is a little history between Rose and Tawan’s grandfathers – her grandfather had borrowed several million baht from his grandfather to help start up the successful Hotel Queen Rose.

Because of this, both the grandfathers agree to have Tawan and Rose marry one another. Rose, of course, refuses but then is given the proposition to at least live at Tawan’s farm for the year or get married immediately.

5. Plerng Naree (Lady of Fire) 2016

Mai is Risa, an illegitimate daughter of Kanin. When she and her mother are forced to leave the country because of her father’s family, they find solace in Trigis.

Risa’s mother marries the King of Trigis, and she, in turn, becomes Princess Pririsa of Trigis.

However, Risa is still holding on to her grudge against her father and his family. So Risa disguises herself as an employee and seeks out her revenge on her father’s family.

6. Chai Mai Jing Ying Tae (A Fake Tootsie) 2017

Mai plays in this comedy Thai drama as Rin, a down-on-her-luck woman whose employer was sued for fraud and so lost her job and promotion.

When Rin meets Ken, a gay crossdresser who has even worse luck than her, she loses her wallet and all the money she has left. When Rin finds out that Ken actually took her wallet, she hits him and both of them are arrested.

In the police office, Ken sees a flyer for a beauty pageant where transgender people can participate. Ken signs Rin up for it and even changes her name.

Rin wins the prize money for the beauty pageant but is also required to star in a film directed by Pak. Pak eventually falls for Rin but is feeling confused because he believes she’s a transgender woman.

7. Buang Banjathorn (Love Beyond Time) 2017

In this remake of Love Beyond Time, Mai co-stars with Mario Maurer in this historical Thai drama about an enchanted bed.

Mai is Praenuan, a woman disappointed in love when she catches her newly married husband cheating on her. Heartbroken and wanting to get a fresh start, Praenuan heads to the estate that her late father left for her in his will.

In her father’s estate, Praenuan discovers an enchanted bed that will take her back to the past where she meets Laoperng, a leader wanting to make changes in his village.

As Praenuan involves herself in this past life, she starts to fall for Laoperng. Trouble finds her though when her husband comes back asking for a second chance.

Mai stars as beautiful Riam who is unlucky in love as she’s had 3 failed relationships. She declares that she’s done dating men and doesn’t believe true love is out there for her.

On a drunken night, she mistakenly enters the apartment of her new neighbor Ongsa. Though Riam doesn’t recognize him, Ongsa knows immediately who Riam is–an old classmate that used to tease him mercilessly.

When Riam returns to work, she collapses and is taken to the hospital. She finds out that she has an ovarian cyst that can only be fixed by surgery or pregnancy.

Knowing that her family has a history of cancer, Riam starts her search for a baby daddy.

9. Ruk Chut Jai Nai Chukchern (My Ambulance) 2019

Mai plays Tantawan a woman with magical powers who has been in love with her boyfriend Dr. Peng for 15 years. However, Tantawan has doubts that Peng is still in love with her.

One day, Tantawan and Peng get into an accident where she was seriously injured. When Tantawan wakes up, she realizes she’s lost her memories.

She starts interacting with Chalam, a recovery doctor, and her heart starts stirring again. At the same time, Dr. Peng has met a new ambulance driver, Bami, who got the job to get close to him.

Mai plays Nubdao, a hardworking woman that works as a host for “Wish You Were Home,” a shopping network for homeowners. Although she has such a great job, Nubdao still feels like she hasn’t made it yet.

One day Nubdao meets Kimhan, a younger man she knew from university, but didn’t recognize. Kimhan, on the other hand, recognized her immediately and wonders if Nubdao remembers their promise to count the stars.

13. Pee Mak 2013

Set in the Rattanakosin Kingdom, Mai stars as Nak a woman who married the love of her life, Mak. Though Nak is pregnant, Mak had to leave her to fight in the war.

While fighting in the war, Mak becomes friends with 4 men and invites them to his house to meet his beautiful wife. As they return home, they hear rumors about Nak being a ghost.

Note: Pee Mak is the highest-grossing film in Thailand. Though the genre is horror, there is humor spread throughout.

14. Freelance: Ham Puay, Ham Phak, Ham Rak Mor (Heart Attack) 2015

Mai stars as Inn, a doctor who has a patient named Yoon, a freelance graphic illustrator.

As Yoon continues to come and see Inn, she’s telling him how to best live his life in a healthy way, even though his own life isn’t getting any better.

15. Suddenly Twenty 2016

In this time travel film, Mai’s role is Parn. The story starts off with Parn being a stubborn old lady in her 70s who keeps causing trouble for her son and his family.

Though Parn is truly proud of her son for becoming a professor, she doesn’t treat everyone else in the family the same way.

When Parn overhears that her son and grandchildren are going to put her in a senior home, Parn is upset and goes out on a walk. She comes to a photography shop and gets her photos taken.

Surprisingly, when Parn walks out of the shop, she notices that she’s 50 years younger.

16. Maya Rasamee 2012

Mai plays the role of Duenram, a young girl who is being abused by her evil stepmother. When she runs away from home, she bumps into Khun Chai Thitirat who helps her.

As many years pass, Duenram meets Khun Chai Thitirat again when he returns to Thailand after being abroad. However, Thitirat is now cynical and treats women badly because of his ex-girlfriend.

Now, Thitirat is arranged to get married to a young woman named Maya Rasamee, but no one really knows who she is.

17. Plae Kao (The Scar) 2014

In a classic Thailand tale, Mai stars as Riam, a woman who is in love with Kwan. Set in 1936, both Riam and Kwan live in a remote area of Thailand where their chief fathers are rivals.

Though they are forbidden to love each other, Kwan and Riam secretly meet and fall in love and declare their love at a shrine.

When Riam’s father finds out, he sells Riam to a lady in Bangkok who takes care of her and introduces her to a wealthy nobleman.

18. Nang Chada (The Resentment) 2015

Mai plays a vengeful spirit Rinlanee in this Thai drama. Rinlanee was a beautiful dancer but was always bullied by her classmates because she was an orphan.

One day, things get out of hand and Rinlanee gets injured pretty seriously. The classmates who were bullying her became scared and buried her behind the school.

One of them, Chompoo, gets into an accident with Techit, her supposed fiance who actually loves Rinlanee. Chompoo loses her memory she and Techit go abroad for treatment.

When they plan they return to Thailand to help jog Chompoo’s memories, mysterious things start happening to the group who had buried Rinlanee alive.

  • Travel Credit Card: I book all my travel (flights, hotels, car rentals) through my favorite travel credit card. I also use this card for everything on my trip including dining, excursions, and souvenirs. Apart from earning 5x more points towards free travel, there are amazing benefits: no foreign transaction fees, trip cancellation/interruption insurance, trip delay reimbursement (so I can book worry-free), fraud protection, emergency assistance – it’s really a great deal!   • Vaccines and Medications: Check the CDC website for updates on necessary vaccines to enter a country, including updates on Covid-19 and recommended places to visit. I recommend getting all the vaccines you need before you go!
  • Tours + Experiences: I absolutely love my tours! Everything from eerie walking ghost tours to food tours, I’ll usually book something every trip either through Viator or GetYourGuide. I also love LastMinute.com for very affordable tickets to theaters and other experiences in Europe.
