Maui, one of the Hawaiian islands, is known for its beautiful beaches, stunning landscapes, and amazing food. If you’re looking for the best West Maui restaurants, you’ve come to the right place.

In this post, I’ve gathered a few restaurant recommendations from other Maui enthusiasts, so you’ll read a list of our favorite spots for eating out on the island! Whether you’re looking for a romantic dinner or a casual lunch spot, we’ve got you covered.

For planning purposes, make sure you check ahead of time for reservations as some of these restaurants require up to a 6-month wait. Feel free to click on the title of the restaurant to view their website and start making your reservations!

Let’s jump in! Read on to discover the 10 best restaurants in West Maui!

1. Sansei

Pafoua and N posing in front of the Sansei restaurant sign outside. The first on the list of best restaurants in Maui.

Sansei Seafood Restaurant is a Japanese restaurant created by an Oahu native, David “DK” Kodama. There are multiple locations for Sansei, but the two on Maui are located in Lahaina/Kapalua and Kihei.

Currently, Sansei is open for limited seating, so you will need to call in and place a reservation.

Sansei in West Maui offers bold flavors and delicious sauces and glazes for their food! Both the Shrimp Dynamite and Japanese Salad Calamari (it’s not really a salad) are really striking dishes – the sauce that accompanies these dishes were out of this world!

If you are a sushi lover, Sansei is an excellent place to go! Check out the specials as those are full of flavor!

Another mouthwatering dish is the DK’s Crab Ramen which includes king crab, jalapenos, cilantro, Thai basil, and a savory truffle butter broth–the best part of this soup! Sansei tops my favorite restaurants in Maui!

Sansei is dimly lit, with comfortable booth seating and also table seat options. We were seated in a timely manner and the waitress came directly to ask for drink orders. She was polite and answered all the questions we had regarding some of the dishes.

The food is served as it is prepared so don’t expect all of it to come out at the same time.

2. Star Noodle

Star Noodle is an Asian restaurant with fusion share dishes of Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, and many more Asian cultures. Located on Front Street in Lahaina, your table will be tucked away in the back inside wood-trimmed fencing and views of the ocean.

Star Noodle is currently only taking reservations so plan ahead and give them a call!

With all of these Asian fusion flavors, the dishes are so delicious! Some favorite menu items include the Vietnamese crepe, ahi poke, steamed pork buns, Star garlic noodles, and the nuoc cham chicken. These dishes are so light and flavorful that you can’t go wrong with a dish here.

Star Noodle is a popular restaurant with affordable prices so we did wait a little longer for food orders. But since this was one of the best restaurants with a view of the ocean, it wasn’t too hard to wait!

When the waiter did arrive, he was relatable and helpful. The food was served as it was prepared so we were able to share dishes while waiting for all of our orders.

3. Old Lahaina Luau

Right next door to Star Noodle is Old Lahaina Luau, one of the most authentic luaus on the island. Everyone should experience a Luau when visiting a Hawaiian island and Old Lahaina Luau is a great place that provides authentic music and dancing, as well as an appetizing menu.

They also have locally made goods such as wood carvings and necklaces. Throughout the whole time, there is a small band that plays traditional Hawaiian music as well. As with the other recommendations, plan ahead and make your reservations.

The menu is 5 courses and fully set, and you can request seconds and get unlimited drinks. The menu includes taro chips, sweet bread and honey-guava butter, Pua’a Kalua Roasted Pork, Poke, Pipi Ko’ala (grilled beef steak), pineapple upside-down cake, and so much more!

After the courses are completed, you sit back for a great show full of history, hula dancing, and beautiful music. Set on the waterfront, you will watch the hula dancers with the ocean in the background providing you with the perfect spot for a great view!

From checking in to getting seated, the whole process is very smooth and easy. Old Lahaina communicates with you through text on when to arrive and a reminder of the menu.

The servers also do a great job of describing the food on the menu and giving a little Hawaiian history of how the food is prepared. The show is about an hour long and it is beautifully done.

4. Feast at Lele

Best restaurants in Maui - Feast at Lele

One of the best restaurants with a view in West Maui is the Feast at Lele in Lahaina, which is actually an outdoor luau with a plated dinner at a private table and awesome Polynesian dancing in between courses.

Each course highlights cuisine from a different Polynesian island and a lot of food is truly outstanding and full of flavor that the average tourist doesn’t have an opportunity to try anywhere else.

You’ll get an appetizer, four small-plate entrees, desserts, plus unlimited tropical drinks.  A few notable things on the menu include braised beef cooked New Zealand-style, grilled mango ginger chicken from Tahiti, and baked shrimp with creamy coconut butter.

The Feast at Lele is right on the beach and you’ll get an epic sunset view so you can’t beat the location! As an added bonus, there are photographers set up to take sunset photos!

The evening starts with drinks, a fresh flower lei, and live Hawaiian music. By the end of the evening, your tummy will be satisfied and you will have enjoyed a lot of live entertainment.

Make reservations as this dining experience books up quickly. Though there might be many restaurants to enjoy a Hawaiian luau, the Feast at Lele is definitely one of the most unique luaus on Maui!

5. Fleetwoods

Best restaurant in Maui - Fleetwoods on Front Street in Lahaina

Located in historic Lahaina on Maui’s West coast is Fleetwoods on Front Street. Not only is Fleetwoods one of the best restaurants in Maui with a view but it’s a must-visit when traveling in Maui.

The restaurant is booked from open to close on a daily basis. Reservations open up 30 days in advance so a bit of preplanning is required if you want to enjoy great food at Fleetwoods.

Fleetwoods is a two-story destination restaurant known for its rooftop bar, hand-crafted cocktails, tasty cuisine, live music, and epic views. If that wasn’t enough, the restaurant is owned by the legendary Mick Fleetwood himself, who is known to pop in from time to time for some impromptu concerts.

Some must-try food items include the Lahaina burger, herb-crusted Mahi over risotto, and everyone’s favorite off-menu item, the ultimate surf n turf.

Pair any of these dishes with the Mai Tyler or Kokomo cocktail and you are guaranteed a mouth-watering experience!

The staff is very happy and wear smiles that say ‘my job rocks and we’re glad you’re here.’  The incredible views, outstanding service, superior cuisine, and live music create an ambiance that has people returning year after year!

6. The Hula Grill

Best restaurant in maui with a view - Hula Grill

The Hula Grill is an outdoor restaurant right on Kaanapali Beach, near the entrance to Whalers Village, and is one of the best restaurants in Maui with a view.

Tables are set up under picturesque thatched umbrellas and most days there is live entertainment such as musical performances on the patio.

The patio is actually set up in the sand, so you can take your shoes off, dig your toes into the sand, listen to the strumming of the Hawaiian music, and watch the waves hit the shore on the beach. The ambiance really can’t be beaten.

Not only does Hula Grill deliver on the ambiance, but it also puts out some absolutely fantastic dishes: the Firecracker Fish – featuring grilled fish, a spicy aioli, and black bean avocado salsa – is a favorite on the menu. Or try the flavorful combo of macadamia-crusted mahi-mahi topped with crab and served with coconut sesame white rice.

You can’t leave without trying the Original Hula Pie – a sinfully rich dessert consisting of a chocolate cookie crust, macadamia ice cream, hot fudge sauce, and whipped cream. You’ll definitely want to split this with your dining companions!

The wait staff at Hula Grill are always friendly and helpful, and while it can take a moment for the food to arrive, it’s no chore relaxing on the oasis of the patio. Reservations are recommended!

7. Sea House Restaurant

Pafoua and N trekking through the gardens to get to the Sea House Restaurant

The Sea House Restaurant is located in the Napili Kai Beach Resort and is one of the best restaurants in Maui with a view!

You will need to walk through the gardens in the resort to get to the restaurant (and it’ll feel a little awkward), but eventually, you’ll go down a few steps and reach the entrance, which is on the beach.

The Sea House Restaurant was a multi-winner for the Best Breakfast award, so make your way early to get a great spot and the best food – and you’ll have a hard time choosing! A few notable mentions are the Loco Moco Napili Kai, Seahouse Fried Rice, or the Molokai Sweet Potato Fritatta.

For the table, you’ll want to get Haleakala pancakes, which have cinnamon, brown sugar, pineapple, and banana, – yum!

As you wait for your food, you’ll have the perfect view of the beach through the open-air restaurant. The staff is so friendly and you’ll receive great service. The Sea House Restaurant definitely needs to go on your list of best restaurants in Maui!

8. Ululani’s Shave Ice

IMG 5613

Ululani’s Shave Ice has many locations in Maui. Whichever one you decide to go to, you will get the same experience for Hawaiian shave ice. Ululani boasts fine shave ice and unique syrups for the dessert.

You definitely need a shave ice experience before leaving Maui, and this is the place to do so! Ululani’s shave ice is so soft due to the technique their machine uses.

They also have unique syrups made from their own recipes, and different toppings to add on top–I personally loved the mochi!

When you order, you’ll choose 1-2 syrups and a few toppings from their menu items to add to your dessert. They also offer to add more syrup to your shave ice if you get close to the bottom of the cup and need more flavoring.

As first-timers to ordering shave ice, the workers were so patient and also guided us to make the best order. They make the shave ice right in front of you and add syrups as requested. The service was super quick and easy.

9. Mama’s Fish House

IMG 4791

Mama’s Fish House is a family-owned restaurant renowned for serving some of the freshest seafood as the fish is usually caught the same day by their fishermen 30 miles offshore and sometimes even 2,000 feet deep.

Mama’s is unique in that its menu is subject to change, and they list the name of the local fishermen on their menu for that day. Mama’s earned one of the top 2 rankings on Opentables List of US Restaurants and TripAdvisor’s top 10 restaurants in 2016.

If the rankings don’t say enough, Mama’s fish house is located right on the beach with views of sea turtles, beautiful horizons, and rolling waves. From the restaurant, you get a direct sightline of the waves and the breeze.

The seafood dishes are also top of the line-fresh Mahi Mahi, Ono, Ahi, and much more prepared deliciously as well! The Kona Kapachi stuffed with crab and lobster and baked with a Macadamia nut crust is so tender and tasty.

Mama’s fish curry with Ahi, Ono, and Mahi-Mahi is also full of flavor (think Thai style curry) and you can modify the spiciness. View the menu.

Pro tip: Make reservations 5-6 months in advance as it is one of Maui’s most popular restaurants with a long wait.

Mama’s Fish House is lit up from the line of windows that gives natural light and ocean views, which makes it one of Maui’s best places with a view and fine dining!

The waitress came directly to ask for drink orders and build rapport; she was very relatable. When it came time to order food, she was so open and willing to talk through any of the dishes and gave her honest opinion. The food arrived quickly after ordering. Overall, some of the best service I’ve experienced.

10. Paia Fishmarket

In Maui, there are 4 Paia Fishmarket locations: Paia Town, Lahaina, Kihei, Waikiki. The restaurant mentioned in this post is the location in Paia Town.

Paia Fishmarket is rated one of the top seafood restaurants in Hawaii with fresh fish.

The restaurant doesn’t take reservations, so I would recommend arriving right around the time they open as there is usually a line outside the door. You can plan a stop at the Paia Fishmarket after your trip on the Road to Hana!

Because of the fresh catch, the fish Paia Fishmarket is so delicious at reasonable prices. You have a choice between the ways your fish will be prepared: grilled, sautéed, Cajun, or blackened.

The Mahi Mahi sautéed is so tender and mouthwatering! On the other hand, the fish and chips on the menu were also very good.

It is requested that you do not seat yourself before ordering, so when you walk into the restaurant you can go right up and put in your order. Then there is picnic-like seating inside the restaurant.

The food is delivered as quickly as possible, but still a little bit of a wait if there are multiple orders ahead of you. Once you put in your order, you get a number and a server will deliver your food to your table. The atmosphere is pretty relaxed and chill.

My Favorite Travel Tips + Resources

Here is a quick glance at all my go-to travel tips and resources that I use to plan every trip! For more information, check out my travel resources page.

  • Booking flights: I use Google Flights to check all routes and find the best flights. Then I compare them with Expedia (for reward points) and Skyscanner (for the lowest prices) before I book.
  • Accommodations: I love budget-friendly rentals or booking at a hotel where I can earn points. For hotels, I go through Booking.com or book directly with Marriott (for points + rewards). When I travel internationally, I’ll book through Hostelworld for very budget-friendly stays. For vacation rentals, I usually look through Airbnb, but you could also use Vrbo. Expedia also has some great bundles for hotels, flights, and car rentals altogether.
  • Transportation: For travel in the United States, I love renting through Expedia with Enterprise or Thrifty. They have been consistent and provide the best customer service. For international travel, I’ll book through Rome2Rio or Eurail for trains or bus fares.
  • Travel Credit Card: I book all my travel (flights, hotels, car rentals) through my favorite travel credit card. I also use this card for everything on my trip including dining, excursions, and souvenirs. Apart from earning 5x more points towards free travel, there are amazing benefits: no foreign transaction fees, trip cancellation/interruption insurance, trip delay reimbursement (so I can book worry-free), fraud protection, emergency assistance – it’s really a great deal! Check it out here!
  • Vaccines and Medications: Check the CDC website for updates on necessary vaccines to enter a country, including updates on Covid-19 and recommended places to visit. I recommend getting all the vaccines you need before you go!
  • Tours + Experiences: I absolutely love my tours! Everything from eerie walking ghost tours to food tours, I’ll usually book something every trip either through Viator or GetYourGuide. I also love LastMinute.com for very affordable tickets to theaters and other experiences in Europe.
  • What to Pack: I almost always travel by backpack. For products I like, check out my packing guide page for all the things I take with me on different trips.
