How to Schedule an Uber Ride in Lisbon
You can book your ride when you need it while traveling in Lisbon, or you can schedule your ride ahead of time like for the time you arrive and need a ride from the airport.
To book your ride, launch the Uber app and enter your pick-up and drop-off location. Once you select your ride type, it will generate an estimated fare for the ride and you’ll have the option to book your trip with Uber.
Your driver will arrive at your selected location in minutes. After your ride, you can pay either through your connected credit card or you must select to pay cash before booking a ride.
How Much is an Uber Ride in Portugal?
Generally speaking, Uber is a little cheaper than what you may find in other European countries. Booking a ride through Uber can also be cheaper than local taxis. Keep in mind that costs for Uber rise with distance and even the time you need your ride.
The base fare for Uber in Portugal depends on which car you select, however, you can expect anywhere from 3.50€ to 5.20€. In USD, that’s $3.79 to $5.63.
Uber is compatible with credit cards so you can connect it directly in the app and pay for your ride. Again, be sure to select “cash payment” before booking your ride if you want to pay cash.
Tipping is not mandatory, but your driver will appreciate it. Depending on how you feel about your driver’s service, you have 30 days after your trip to pay a tip to your driver.

In general, Uber is considered to be safe and a reliable form of transportation in Portugal. All drivers who use the app must pass background checks before being able to offer rides. Due to new laws, cars have to be less than 4 years old and they need a private hire license.
After you have successfully booked your ride, Uber will send you the car details, license number, and driver information. Be sure to double-check everything before jumping into the car when your driver shows up!
The Uber app also has an in-app emergency button. Pressing this will alert authorities to your location and vehicle information for faster help when you need it.

At Lisbon Airport, you can meet your Uber driver at the departure in Terminal 1 near the Kiss & Fly car park. To get there, go up the escalators and through the exit doors past the Heineken bar on the left. You’ll then cross the street to the pick-up area.

Public Transportation
I am a big proponent of public transportation: metros, buses, trams, and trains. Portugal is well-connected and all the public transportation systems is mostly reliable, clean, and safe.
During our trip to Lisbon, we loved using the bus and trams to get to places. The one time we tried to use the metro, it was shut off and we didn’t know about it (that was a crazy story!).
The best way to use public transportation is by getting the Lisbon Card, where you can select 24-hour, 48-hour, or 72-hour use. This includes unlimited free use of public transportation in Lisbon and even free or discounted prices for museums and other tourist sites.

Other Rideshare Apps
There are more rideshare apps that aren’t as popular as Uber in Portugal. These include Bolt, Free Now, and Kapten. However, if you are only visiting Portugal for a few days it may be better to stick to Uber so you don’t have to download so many apps.
Local Taxis
Taxi rides in Lisbon are usually a bit more expensive than Uber. Taxis in Portugal have an official black and green color with a taximeter inside. Be sure to check that the driver starts the meter before starting your journey.
Tuk Tuks
Tuk Tuks are another way to explore the city. They are more expensive than Uber and public transportation but it’s a good option if you want to take your time sightseeing or want a unique experience of getting around Lisbon. Prices are usually agreed upon before booking, so be sure to get an estimate of the cost first!
