You can also get to Half Moon Bay from San Francisco by taking the Caltrain and bus. Please note, the Caltrain is NOT the same as BART, though they do work together for public transportation in the bay area.

Once you are on the Caltrain headed south, you’ll be on there for about 40 minutes, then switch to the 294 bus, which will then take you directly into Half Moon Bay.

This whole trip altogether would be a total of 2 hours and 15 minutes. I would highly recommend renting a car instead and making the short drive yourself. You can then travel at ease while exploring Half Moon Bay.
